The Beginning of a Streak

Week 7 featured your Canton Classics waging war against the swashbuckling, four-time SFL Champion, Queen City Corsairs. Canton came fresh off of their first official victory, in which they defeated the Sioux Falls Sparrows while Queen City entered the game after a loss to the Tulsa Desperados.
Initially, the game got off to a rocky start, after Canton QB Cameron Curtis threw an interception on the first drive. However, after the Classics Defense were able to get the ball back, Curtis and the Offense found their groove.
Running Back, Robert Johnson, began to impose his will on the Corsair Defense and made a nice run of about 30 yards, making Canton the 1st team to reach the red zone. That drive was capped off with a 14-yard touchdown pass from QB Cameron Curtis to WR KJ Aleixo, which marked the first touchdown reception of Aleixo’s career.
The Corsairs tried to answer Canton’s momentum, but a pass attempt from Corsair QB OJ Bruin was quickly intercepted by CB Conner Darian (5 tackles, 1 int.). And after a change of possession, another by LB Mark Gronek (7 tackles, 1 int., 1 recovered fumble).
After forcing two turnovers, the Classics Defense were on fire. Linebacker Adam Chance stoked the flames with a forced fumble on QB OJ Bruin leading to another change of possession. Chance tallied six tackles, three passes defensed and a forced fumble as he played like a man possessed.
Going into the forth quarter, QB Curtis took advantage of the power surge displayed by the Classics and hit WR Kendra Hall (5 rec., 70 yards) on a beautiful 50 yard bomb. Hall was able to get behind the entire Corsair Defense and carry the ball all the way to the one yard line. That drive was sealed with a one yard touchdown run by RB Robert Johnson (27 carries, 87 yards).
But QB Cameron Curtis’ day wasn’t done. From his own 13 yard line, Curtis (24/28, 247 yards, 2 TDs) then connected with WR Mike Twinscrew (4 rec., 110 yards, 1 TD) for a spectacular 87 yard touchdown pass, which essentially put the game out of reach for the Corsairs.
With backups in the game Defensively for Canton, Queen City was able to escape a shutout but the game was already decided… 21-7.
Week 8, Canton will face off with the Portland Fleet at Fatherhood Festival Field as they attempt to continue their winning streak.
